please dont die
My new babies. Please don’t die, little guys. I need you for pizzas and salads.

What I’m reading: I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai. Malala, an outspoken advocate of girls’ education in Pakistan and all around badass, was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman when she was 14… and survived. Know what I was doing at 14? Skipping school to roleplay as Sailor Moon characters in AOL chatrooms. Shii-et.
What I’m eating: Kaddo Bourani
What I’m watching: episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space 9 I’ve already seen a dozen times. <3 Jadzia and Worf forever <3

Good reads:

// An egg an empty flower pot. What could it be?! Spoiler: something ADORABLE.

// As a young teenager I was enthralled by Piers Anthony’s Xanth series. I feel a sense of uneasiness when I look back on it and this article from the AV Club encapsulates my thoughts perfectly.

// In case you haven’t seen the 13 year old Mongolian eagle huntress yet.

// It’s been 60 years since Brown v. Board of Education, though it doesn’t seem that way in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

// The evolutionary purpose of the menstrual cycle. Really, read it. It’s the most fascinating thing you’ll ever read about periods.

// 23 photos from Egypt’s golden years.

// Lucknow’s famous dancing girls.

// The Anatomy of a Dragon, gorgeous illuminations.

// Beautiful write up on mortality from Sasha Sagan, Carl Sagan’s daughter.

// The secret symbols in Victorian architecture.

Food:

// Butternut squash tacos with lime sauce? Yes, please.

// I have frozen treats on the mind. This toasted coconut sorbet with cardamom looks so delicious!

// Do you have a hankering for Vietnamese food too? These banh mi wraps would really hit the spot.

// Black bean burrito bowls were a lunch staple when I lived in San Francisco. I grew up not knowing about the deliciousness of Mexican food, but I’d like to think I’m making up for it now.

// More black beans! I never had a good black bean burger until I visited Frita Batidos here in Ann Arbor. I’m tempted to make my own now, and these black bean sloppy joes look like they would be a good place to start.

// My kind of salad. Falafel-Spiced Roasted Chickpea Salad with Tahini Dressing.

// I haven’t found any broccolini at any nearby markets yet, but when I do I’ll be making this hardboiled egg and broccolini dish.

// Dark Chocolate Coconut Macaroons would make for a perfect afternoon/tea time treat.

Share your thoughts. Don't be a weenie.
